Turncoat

Turncoat

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(An old poem about an old moggie, long gone)

"
This fickle creature nudges me
and weaves between my walking feet.
It's not for love he acts this way,
he prompts me as it's time to eat.

Attempts to sit him on my knee
so I can stroke his thick black fur
have failed. My feline won't respond,
he will not sleep or gently purr.

Not my black cat, there's none of that.
Not all indoors are kept exempt,
It's me he keeps his distance from,
It's me he serves with such contempt.

It does appear his mind is set.
My pet is stubborn, I take heed.
From him I can't expect a thing,
from me, at least he'll get his feeds.

such a sense of humor Christine ... all cat owners relate ... they are remarkable in their aloofness if nothing else ... so moggie or not ... they are special ... growing up we had two cats .. one at a time .. no pedigree but you would think so by the attitude .. a funny thing .. they both had 7 toes on each front paw and 6 on each back .. the first was a calico and the second was the color of a pile of autumn leaves in upstate NY ... they both also were long haired and ferocious with one sweep of those mitts they could rake the nose of the largest of dog breeds ...all of V1 and L3&4 V3 really tickle me ... we never forget our pets do we .. no matter the distance ;)
E.

Oh dear Chris, sounds like your cat was a right little character. I must admit. We had a cat like that when I was younger. Tina. Actually called Argentina after a Scotland and Argentina football game that was on television at the time we got her. Shows how long ago that was. She was like your cat above. You would not dare pet her. Or cuddle her. She was her own boss. And we all knew this. With much respect from afar. My mother was the only one who could pick her up and cuddle her and she would follow my mother to the local shops and back again with her tail held high above her body. She was quite a cat-like yours. Great reminders. Thanks Chris. Enjoyed it a whole lot your poem.

Well thank you Vivian. I am left pondering on peacoat. That wouldn't be a moggie would it?

Cute!
I have never been an upholstery shredding, bird eating cat lover, but we did have one big old affectionate tom who I do miss
Inside the house he was a 'puddy tat' but outside, a killer
