Who Were We Kidding

Who Were We Kidding

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(Girls on holiday)

"
all those holidays ago
when we hired a convertible
to get us round the island
red it was, red for danger
strangers were we to etiquette
on foreign roads
so when we approached
crossroads our ignorance showed
splendidly in primary colour
as the local men tooted
and honked horns noisily
we just tooted back tenfold
not realising it was their way
of saying, we got here first
deploy your brakes don't be dumb

The last part cracked me up haha. These little little silly yet funny incidents are like treasure to enjoy life. It feels like I visualized a hilarious movie scene while reading the piece. I can predict the later part where the girls are looking at each other and laughing at the situation.

What a racket on the roads!
So hilarious it was...so funny!
In retrospect,
so youthful and kind of silly.
And now,
when we look back at it all....
just so wonderful a memory!

When I was younger, I sometimes, though I confess, not often, wondered what the locals thought of us noisy lot. Especially so in my very early twenties when I went on several singles holidays. Now of course, sensible me can 'tut tut' with the best of them; and I am more Shirley Valentine than party animal. :))

Thanks Christine, for bringing back some fond and very vivid memories.

Beccy.

Thank you Kay - T. Pleased you enjoyed.

In our youthful years, my friends and I often got up to some daft things. We couldn't afford to hire a car, but we did have Vespa and Lambretta scooters to cause mayhem outside of cafes and coffee bars. You've kicked-off memories. Thank you Christine.

Aw, you are too kind :)
I like how there is a "total lack of fluid communication" within this. You're pretty clever. Mass communication will delay in some form or fashion at least eventually like in the next three days, everything. The world is in the process of being delayed.
