Mind Speak

Mind Speak

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(Spontaneous write) I don’t do love poetry

"
this heart of mine
hasn’t yet recovered
it still weeps for the ache
that would have quenched
its thirst

four chambers beating in conflict
with those stretched strings
in my mind
why don’t you let go
it says
why can’t you let go

snow white
do what’s right
promises aren’t made to be broken
hear that moral compass
speak out loud
the moral fibre has spoken

but still after years I weep
for the deep feelings felt
melt away moments
yes it was love though not fulfilled
an unexpected surprise
not a cheap give away token

i hear ya
my heart pumps blood not feelings
feelings are reactions to life experiences
a man's soul is where love hangs it's hat

ms. chris

i like where this takes us - down into those deep crevices we tend not to want to talk about. has a bit of a sting - but is necessary to jolt the heart back into rhythm when 'tis fibrillating. unfulfilled love - not an easy medicine to swallow. well done.

I love the lyrical quality of this poem as much as the emotion, imagery, and effective rhyme. I've read it numerous times and see it as a ballad meant to be sung, not just read. Lovely. The third stanza is the refrain I hear in my mind as I read/sing this poem. Really effective.

dear Chris... our Heart is so intricately given when feelings are flying like a summer shower. We remember how we were drawn to close encounters that linger in our golden years... where tears can nourish our understanding. softly, Pat

The most important thing about love seems to be that it just exists. Yet it can end in any second of the day. A wonderful breakup poem. Keep writing (although you seem to have no trouble with that-!) and thanks for this wonderful poem! ;P

Only love allows us to get mistreated. I do not have enough words to explain how it does touch my heart. Beautiful!
