A Leaf's Question

A Leaf's Question

A leaf's Question
As I look down, with people scurrying to rake up the fallen crew,
I hang on overlooking, still covered with morning dew.

Unusually warm this November Day,
is it time to let go and wither away?

Confused, I should remember
for my hues have told me so.
Changed in color I have, am I ready to let go and flow?

Shall I be a part of the raked and bundled tomorrow?
For that thought in a way has brought me great sorrow.

Will I get to scurry about as the wind moves within my veins?
Looking forward to joining the others
in a pile lying in the rain.

To the children's laughter as they roll us around,
Listening to our last crackle, we'd relish in their joyous sound.

Until then, I shall hang on still swaying in the cooler winds,
until my last dance in air,
when I too become unhinged.

I feel this is a beautiful metaphor for life. Especially those of us elder folks still clinging to the branch as everyone we know has been piled up and collected. Also I tend to love this time of year because I like the smell of wet leaves. A wonderfully written poem. CLE

That was nice. First poem I have read from a leaf's point of view. I like the creativity in this.
