Autumn Haunts the Air

Autumn Haunts the Air

A Poem by An owl on the moon
"

Over fields of lace I hear her lullabies…

"

Coxcomb red her hair, viper black her eyes

Over fields of lace I hear her lullabies…

Lavender dreams of the gossamer streams

Lying in a mist of nothing it seems…

Ever a numbness as leaves pass the day

Ever a fragrance of autumn’s display

Now fighting the future, I beg you to stay...

To consider just your writing & the words, one could say this is a delicious love serenade. But somehow you infused it with a hauntedness thru-out! Love the cauldron of hot & cold sentiments swirling. Every line feels like it's been thoughtfully turned over & over until perfected, but especially, I love this line: "Lying in a mist of nothing it seems" . . . the rhyme & rhythm add a ton to the ambiance of hauntedness (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Interesting symbolism in this one. The first line speaks of coxcomb red hair and viper black eyes. A beautiful color combination, but are we also being told something about the lady's character? Is she both belligerent and treacherous? Then we hear of lavender dreams and gossamer streams lying in the midst of nothing, "it seems." Has the speaker come to understand that what he had seen in the lady was nothing but a false front. In the end, she appears to be leaving him, and he is begging her to stay. Dumped, in other words. Perhaps all we are seeing here is a case of unrequited love, but the symbols rather jumped out at me.

What a beautiful woman your graphic shows! My niece is looking along with me and she exclaimed a loud WOW! As to your words, although the season flows from your wording there's still that feeling of what or who lingers in it.. strange how some writing becomes more than metaphorical. Come what may, right or wrong, your words are like so much of your writing, full of rich colours, yet fragile, transparent, ' Lavender dreams of the gossamer streams ~ lying in the mist of nothing it seems.'
