Snapshot

Snapshot

A Poem by Charlie Roswell
"

The memories stirred up by a simple photograph.

"

I look back at it often,

Hoping to see your face,

But their aim was all off balance,

They couldn’t match our pace.

The smile I have is blissful,

I remember yours was too,

I wish I had a photo,

For me to cling on to,

Instead I have this snapshot,

Not much to see at all,

But, ah, the bittersweet,

The highs before the fall,

Too soon you had left me,

Afraid and all alone,

It wasn't meant to be,

No calm after our storm,

So now I have this snapshot,

Your face nowhere to be seen,

I sigh and look back often,

At what we might have been.

I can very much relate to this lovely poem you have written. Back in my day, we didn't have digital cameras, and photos were few and far between. It was so awesome to get a Polaroid and be able to take "on the spot" photos...see them right away. The trouble was, they were often as you say "off balance" producing not what would be the perfect picture. Those moments though, can come quickly back when I look at an old polaroid, perhaps blurry, or head cut out and I treasure having anything at all to spur my memory. Obviously, I loved this.

That is exactly the kind of photo I imagined on the stereotypical polaroid paper! :) Thank you. X

You certainly made me remember! :)
You did very well if this is your first poem. You create story and question in the poem. I like the desire to try to find a place lost and can't be found. I enjoyed the complete poem. A strong ending to a excellent poem.
