An ode to unknown food allergies

An ode to unknown food allergies

A Poem by J. L. Childers

So innocent you sit there
Upon my plate so neatly
So warm, tasty, and sweet
Who knew death would come so swiftly?

To see you is a wondrous delight
To smell you titillates the senses
To eat you is to experience awe and amazement
At the new flavors that are to behold

The burning
The bloating
The itching
The pain
Who would have known that this was to gain?

To eat is a necessity
To dine is a delight
To suffer the consequences
The discomfort quite a fright

I am thankful that I only broke out
For a serious allergy, could have taken me down
As I wait for the marks to heal
I ponder my fate
For I could have died, from something that I ate.

I can't believe you left us dangling like that. I wanted to know what food it was.

Cute and deadly :0) I like poems with a different, unusual story line. Imaginative. Welcome to WritersCafe.
