Footprints In The Dirt

Footprints In The Dirt

A Poem by Chris Micha
"

Moments collected in a jar.

"
He scooped up their footprints,
that were left in the dirt.
Remembering every single step,
before he stored them in a jar.
His angels watched,
this little boy's beautiful mind,
collecting memories,
so dear to his heart.

Tears of the present, fall hard into
the past.
Leaving emotional craters, embedded
in the dirt.
The lid is put on tight, sealing in time.
Along with the happiness, replaced
by the hurt.

He looks down the gravel road,
around the corner's bend.
He's going to wait right there
for him to come back,
and it doesn't matter when.

A few miles away, his tires hug
the road.
His hands grip the steering wheel,
as he fights back the building tears.
A song on the radio, releases a cascading
river down his cheeks.
While collected memories of his Son,
cry with him on his feet.

Aww, well I am grateful you liked it. Smile :)
Simply beautiful! The lost of someone, especially a child, is so painful and brings so much hurt. Clinging on to those last memories of our deceased loved ones sometimes are all we need to continue to get by, though, and to go on.

Thank you so much, Audrey. Such kind words. :)
Like the concepts here, particularly the jar and the footprints. A sad story of tragic loss. I think people do whatever they have to do to treasure what they can. Well written :) Penny

So very true, Penny. This is a chapter from my life.

Losing someone we love is never easy.We wake up one day and realize that they are just..gone.With only their memories behind. And we keep the memories of them ckose to our hearts.Because those memories are all that left of them.Such an emotional piece.Loved it.Good work. :-)

To sum me up is pretty easy. I love writing because it's therapy for my wayward soul. Although, I am by no means any good at it, I still put myself out there. I use to write when I was younger but gav.. more..
