What's Lost

What's Lost

A Poem by Meghan

I really wanna lay in bed
With your arm across my chest
You see my bruises and my bloody nails
And tell me it's not for the best

I wanna hear
You sing that song I hate
Want you to nag me
Though you know it's too late

I really wanna see your face
And the smirk you do so well
When you know I'm wrong
But I keep giving you hell

I wanna know
Did you ever really care?
'Cause my best friends hurt
And I can't exactly share

I really hope you understand
The truth is I'm not sure
If what we had was even real
And I have to shut the door

I can't like you
I can't like the things you say
I can't hold on
Or else what matters goes away
..............................................What matters goes away.

Ouch!
I hear what you're saying; I've heard it before, but not quite like this. I feel the longing, the pain of resolute surrender/acceptance? I can relate to the question: "was it real?"
My question is, why? Why would "what matters" go away?

Depressing, the way I like 'em.

Good stuff. All passionate, in its own way.

This is a passionate cry from the heart - it would work really well as a song as well IMHO. Some amazing imagery here. Great write!
