A Tragic Event

A Tragic Event

A Poem by The Last Philospher

Tragic Event
When things go to waste

Napkins scattered and torn
Hardly any filth on the white fabric
A drink, not half empty, but sadly half full
Unattended by a boy on a phone
While a pizza waits in the center

"Dad the pizza's here" the boy said ten minutes ago.
Dad is busy buying a beer, listening to two bearded men talk of foreigners.
The boy waits for is father, resisting his hunger for company.
"It's getting cold" the buy says, five minutes ago.
Father is having a grown up conversation with bearded men
About a barrier for outsiders, to protect their family way of life
The boy stays silent, tasting his sugary beverage,
Asking friends miles away about their day.
His parent is voicing his dislike of a dictator,
He despises the man who doesn't care for those that admire him.
The bearded men agree and share a beer and a slice,
Laughter is had and important matters spoken.
A memory to be remembered.

A drink not half empty, but instead half full
Remains unattended by a boy on a phone
While a cold, now soggy pie sits in the center of the table.
The boy considers a bite, and raises the greasy slice
Too cold to enjoy, the boy wants more...
But none of this
His father returns to the table with a satisfied belly,
It's time to go, there are thing to be done,
He see's the large pie, hardly nibbled.
"What a waste" he says as he gets ready to leave.

A tragic event
When good things go to waste.
