Unconditional

Unconditional

A Poem by Constance-Outspoken
"

Ah, the joys of parenthood...

"
My house would never be home without
shoes and socks in the middle
of the living room floor
toys in the bathtub
toothpaste globs
marring the sink

My world would feel empty at times if not for
books with scribbled-on pages and
grubby hand-prints on the wall
stained mattresses
half empty cups
on every table

My life wouldn't be the same if I never heard
whining for attention, for no reason
other than making me upset
laughter in the hallway
footsteps pounding
as I try to sleep

How lonely was my existence before
little monsters went and made me
want to pull out my hair
scream bloody murder
cover my head and
cry sometimes

I need these children, especially so
when they wont let me sleep
or they mock my wise words
driving me to insanity
making parenthood
impossibly hard

This is love at its finest, unconditional.

As a mother to five with only 2 remaining, I can so relate..
You have described so clearly how things were and still are to a degree.. I would not change one single toy on the rug, toothpaste glob, or missing strand of hair.

A witty yet endearing piece here..Love this!!

Oh this is so cute and so true. I love the layout of this poem and this is a true testament of how we love our children. Life definitely wouldn't be the same without them. The flow of this poem is nice and easy. I love the way you have put these words together. Great job on this

Awww....you are so very correct. A house is not a home without the invasion of children. They bring, along with chaos, a warmth that no other can. Here's to the little loving monsters. Beautiful ode.

I really love this... what an appreciation you show for the not so pleasant things knowing that it is the sacrifice for love... this is truly heartwarming.

Aaahhh...the unconditional love of a mother for her children, what a beautiful ode to such an amazing emotion. I love the way that you use imagery to transport us into your world, the toothpaste on the sink and the scribbled on books...brilliant!
