Romantic Technology

Romantic Technology

A Poem by Louise Wilson
"

When a newspaper advertises "romantic technology", what else can one do but right about it? (Okay, in a preventive measure, the homophone is on purpose.)

"
A dinner for two in a cafe
(no candles for fear of wiring melting)
A vase with a single, fake rose
(no water due to short circuits)
White table cloth, but no chairs
(as the diners are lacking in laps)
The perfect date for machines in love.
A perfect setting for Romantic Technology.
A synthesizer crooning in the background,
A waiter in a welding apron wielding
a menu, boasting
fysh and ships,
chicken bytes;
Not the highest-class fare,
but a fine night out for two processors
without the glamour of 1st generation,
or the chic edge of the latest model.
He thinks about the shine off her monitor,
She thinks “How well his aerial sways in time.”
He worries how much juice is left in his CPU -
She worries how their software will interface.
Shelf life is short, and obsolescence immediate and lingering,
And in the absence of a love affair with humanity,
Technology has no choice by to make some magic on its own.

I am a young woman, writing from a place deep between my past and future. I tend to over think about everything, and have found writing therapeutic and sharing even more so. I thank all who venture .. more..
