A Letter to MenA Poem by CNPWhy
is it a man’s place to tell me what to wear? Why
is it a man’s place to tell me how to do my hair? When
did it become okay for a man to run my life? When
did it become okay for me to just become his wife?
What
about what I want? Does
anyone even care? But
I guess it doesn’t matter, Because
a man is always there.
A
man is there to do it for me, Or
to tell me what to do. He’s
always there to treat me like a kid without a clue.
Because
that’s the way it’s always been, But
that’s not how it should stay. Some
people don’t want to speak out, But
this is what I have to say
Don’t
let him own you. Be
who you are. Do
it for yourself, And
you can go far.
Don’t
be afraid to fight with him, To
put him in his place. We
may not always win, But
at least be in the race.
A
woman can do anything, Anything
she wants to try. So
to the man who tried to clip her wings, Watch
this woman fly.
To
the man who held her down And
stomped on all her dreams, Your
plan to hold her back is ripping at the seams.
We
are all human beings, So
stop acting like you’re better. We
all want love and acceptance. That’s
why I wrote this letter.
So
to the men who still think they should always come out on top, The
women are rising up, and
we don’t plan to stop.
We
aren’t looking to run the world. We
don’t even want to fight. All
we want is a fighting chance, To
do what we know is right.
We
want to feel empowered, Like
we matter, Like
you care. We
don’t want to be told what to do, who to love, or what to wear.
Stop
looking at us like were weak, Like
we can’t because were less. The
worlds already crazy. Let’s
face it, it’s a mess.
But
if you had the chance to change it, Would
you do your best? You
can start by treating us as your equal, And
we can do the rest. © 2017 CNPAuthor's Note
