Who are we, but heartbroken fools,

Bleeding crimson like ink, onto sheets of white and grey.

Seeking to escape our pain…

We end up immortalizing our misery,

Through songs, sonnets and ballads that sing of our insanity.

I don't know. I'm more Hemingway and Jack London. I seek beautiful places and enjoy time with family. Writers do need sadness, tear and joy, happiness. Good writers watch and observe their world. Be involved and love often, dance everyday and write with a honest pen. I want the sea and travel. I have grandchildren and debt. Life is fair. I'm safe where I stand. Writers must test life. Stand for the right things and don't believe in the naysayers. Thank you for sharing the poem. We do need ballads. Ballads of kisses and life lived.

But some sadness is what puts us on the path of art, that is just my belief.

An artist finds their muse in many places. I know I can relate to your words, finding my inspiration to write from losing someone I love. "singing of insanity" - so true...

From my point of view this is accurate. I think dealing with our emotions is the reason why artists exist. Or maybe religion. So we always have something we can deal with, it might be for fun, but also it might be necessary to live our life. I really enjoyed this thank you for posting.
