DESPAIR

What ever happened to the individual?

You know, the non-conformist attitude;

Living life with high gratitude.

All me without the we…

Let your soul run free

In a constant search for a wish fulfillment guarantee.

What ever happened to that girl?

The one with the pretty blue eyes,

Who never cried…

Dreamed as high as the skies with the hopes to sensationalize…

Every living soul she crossed.

What ever happened to the believer?

Christianity was never a joke…

But now, all she can do is choke

On the lies her pastor once spoke.

So what is it now… what’s out there?

The world seems so dark, so black,

Hope and promise is what we lack.

Under constant attack…

As we move through this crowd.

Everyone is dying…

In the distance, you hear crying…

And a mother is sighing…

Because she has lost her child.

Such tragedy has become a daily routine.

When will this stop?

Is there a light that will bring us back to the top?

I need a promise that will end this constant drop…

Into a worse situation.

I know life sucks,

But is that all we get to see?

That’s all they show us on TV.

Give me a moment, or two, or three…

Let me catch my breath.

This culture shock has got me spinning,

And I’m scared…

It’s only the beginning…

One where winning…

Seems impossible at best.

So tell me, what ever happened to hope?

Hope is merely a stranger

Left long ago in a manger.

Baby Jesus...

Long gone, for now we are in danger…

Of what we will only cause for ourselves…

Despair.

I really wrote this from my view point on life and society. Again, it's also a Slam Poem and is meant to be read aloud. Without doing so, it loses the full effect.

Luckily for me, I've been to enough poetry slams in the past to understand the rhythm of the piece. The words flowed perfectly together and I found myself nodding my head in agreement throughout the poem. I definitely would've loved to hear the piece read out loud, but other than that, it totally rocked and I loved it.
