Please Don't Break My Heart

Please Don't Break My Heart

A Poem by DarkHairedDreamer

Please Don’t Break My Heart

Please don’t break my heart.

It’s fragile, can’t you see?

Your charming words and soulful eyes
Would be the end of me.

Please don’t break my heart,

For it would surely stop it’s beating

The pain and grief that you would cause

Would keep me from my breathing.

My heart is glass and you’re the hammer,

When you’re around my words I stammer,

You never seem to leave my mind,

My thoughts I never seem to find.

The things you say, the things you do

Just make me more and more confused.

My head is raging war inside,

The storm you cause I try to hide.

If I were to give my heart in whole,

Would you protect it, mind and soul?

Keep it in a single piece?

And if you can’t, don’t take it please.

I’m asking for your chivalry,

As politely as I can.

So if you love me, say you do,

If not, don’t hold my hand.

My heart is guarded, can’t you see?

It’s saved for he who’ll love all of me.

I’ve kept and saved it like a treasure

It’s not a toy that’s meant for pleasure.

Don’t make me something just for show,

Don’t catch me if you’ll just let go,

Don’t make me fall if you aren’t serious

For if you did I’d go delirious.

So, please, please, please don’t break my heart,

Just keep me and your games apart.

For I want to know if love is true,

And if it is, will it be with you?
