Angels Never Known

Angels Never Known

A Poem by Not here

I was only a young boy,
a child,
with no one to hold my hand.
And I sat on the rooftops,
the shingles,
and watched as people planned.
They whispered their secrets,
their worries,
as I tried to fall asleep.
I remember the embers,
their burning.
Death causes them to weep.

They say we're all heading
towards hell
with no chance to get away.
But what if the whole world is
a hell that
we wake in every day.
The people are dying,
they're crying,
and reach for a hand to hold.
But we tell them that we are
more human
because that's what we are told.

My friends- they are dying.
I'm lying
when I tell you they are fine.
But I ignore their hearts and
their gashes
to stare at cuts on mine.
'Cause I'm bruised but they're bleeding
and they're leading
their souls closer to death.
And I don't want to take it-
their final
and heartbreaking breath.

So leave me as I am!
They're needing
more attention than I will.
'Cause I'm whining and crying
but they're demons
move in for a final kill.

So hold them, and heal them
with words that
you're too afraid to say.
But I promise that when you
protect them
the demons fly away.
Give them what you cannot,
what you hold to,
so you can turn away the knife.
Because sometime we all will
be fighting
every moment for our life.

Author's Note

Not here
Recently I've been hit in the face by how small my sufferings are compared to some people in the world. Some of them are on here. You know who you are. I hope everyday that you'll understand just how loved you are and how you all- the broken, the beaten, and the damned (Chemical Romance anyone?)- are in some ways more human, because you understand pain like nobody else. Carry on the fight.

Spoke to me. Hit a really dark place that I've managed to turn around. I like how your poetry just flows and how effortless it is. How it just speaks to different types of people. And all in one simple poem.
But thank you hey
I loved this and it really did get me thinking and contemplating my life and looking at in a different and more positive way!
Thanks for sharing this beautiful poem Dante

thank you aphy :) i really appreciate this very much. im glad you liked it
Interesting view and some of your words match thoughts I have had about coming back to earth after death as this is "Hell on Earth". If you don't get it right and go to heaven you come back and do it all over. Thanks for sharing.

Wow what an intense poem. You are right often times we feel terrible about the little things and then think about the bigger picture and realize what is really worth hurting over. There were quite a few lines that I read over because they were so deep and yet so plain. I really liked this poem and the comparisons you used as well as the great detail and description.

Powerful and strong words.

I agree. We will fight daily and seek reasons to be alive. Thank you my friend for sharing the excellent poetry. Left a lot for the reader to think about.

Got the idea and wrote the poem to the tune of Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance.

Well, loosely based the tune anyways. I'm not too good at writing to songs.
