Serves Me Write

Serves Me Write

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

Not what it seems.

"

Under the glare of an August noon

I was content walking barefooted

Upon the asphalt.

I had been doing it long enough

That I couldn’t feel the blisters

Forming on my feet.

Then the day came when you took my hand

Guiding me to the ocean

Till the cool waves licked my toes

Allowing me to feel again.

It was a sensation I got use to,

Even enjoyed.

Then one day I cut my heel

And broke a seashell

Causing me to realize

The safety in blistered feet.

So back to pounding the pavement

With a sense of relief of only stepping on

Glass already shattered.

The day then came when I tripped

On a loose brick breaking my toe

And feeling real pain.

I returned to the shores,

The ocean chill between my toes

Felt in vain

Cause being in heaven

Without my angel

The current might as well drag me

Into the abyss of a watery hell

Where I can drown in my own stupidity.

Don't worry I am not down and depressed... the poem is symbolic and not what you may think.

Reminds me of someone I tried to let go of, only to find they were part of me and I need them as much as I need air.

That is an interesting take on my poem, thank you for sharing that.
I agree with Poppy silver...sometimes you quietly reflect and see the reality...

Sometimes, we have to be in the darkness to see the light, not always doom and gloom, rather insight :)

You are so correct beautiful.
I ditto what Mia say's about seeing your authors note.
I love the whole feel of the piece. Yes there is a darkness that draws you in, but the symbolism you use though out the piece is powerful and brings an intensity with simple realizations. If this makes any sense.... I truly enjoyed this piece, and in a crazy way the last line of this piece well - speaks volumes to me :)
Great write!

Firstly may I say...brilliant title! This poem is intense and I was very relived to read your 'authors not'.
"With a sense of relief of only steeping on
Glass already shattered."
"Cause being in heaven
Without my angel
The current might as well drag me"
Such emotion put beautifully into words.
What really stood out for me was how amazing the ocean was, a place of pleasure and peace. Almost a place of comfort and then something happened (what ever it was) and it turned the place that was once so amazing into something completely painful. A place you couldn't even draw a tiny bit of joy from. When you cut yourself and then that open wound comes into contact with sea water. It stings, A LOT. What an amazing metaphor!

Always a pleasure.
A wonderful parallel dream written here within the rich metaphors you use,
Back to reality from a pleasant dream is sometimes, as fresh as the pain of blisters.
Loved this write, as how often we in general walk and walk to unending gates, and then it was all for nothing, and after we smile cause we loved it, and never wouldn't change a damn thing, and it's still on our retina, to remember... as you wrote it....

Extraordinary write Dale! into my favs!

Oh...this reminds me of a movie..what is it??? Hmmm City of Angels... ok so in a weird way but you know me.. I go weird. I love this Dale.. it is deeper and darker then you usually go and yet if we don't take a ride on the dark side how will we ever appreciate the light ;) xo

a great poet can find a feeling and make it real without him or her first feeling it, there is harmony even in lessons learned to late.

Very true.. thank you.
Great write man. Felt like a very deep wisdom poem of not seeking comfort for sake of being comfortable. Finding comfort in being uncomfortable is the ultimate immovable object. But how love pulls you away from the man you want to be. Or better written. The man you really are. Great write Cowboy. Deep introspective.
