The Man In Black In The Light

The Man In Black In The Light

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

A tribute to the one and only Jhonny Cash

"

The legacy

Of the man in black

Is that he walked the line

With his songs

And did it his way,

Not Sinatra’s.

If he didn’t feel it

He didn’t sing it.

The voice of America

And the people

That built it.

He did it without

 Fences or genres.

With integrity

In his voice

He lit up the stage

With just a guitar

And his voice.

He was a family man,

And a man of God

Fighting demons

That he

Eventually defeated.

The legend called

The man in black

May be gone

But his legacy

Will forever shine

In the hearts

Of music fans

Around the world.

I had the single on Sun records " I walk the line" on the A side and " Get Rhythm" on the B side.
Got that record when it came out in 1956...
and I was lucky enough to see him in concert here at SIU back in spring of 1969....
He sounded great, and played for a long time. I am more of a rock fan, not country, but he is one of the exceptions to that rule.
I quite agree and really like this poem.

I agree my friend. I was glad he met a talented man to help him sing his final songs. Almost forgotten. His new songs. Torn away at the soul of us. Outstanding words for the great man.

Such a fine poem for: ' He was a family man, ~ And a man of God ~ Fighting demons ~ That he ~ Eventually defeated. '

Over the years have learned to appreciate country music. Took me a while to enjoy the deep, rasping voice of Mr. Cash.. but like a few other singers, having a very own way of interpreting and singing lyrics he made them special.. Your poem shows such respect for the man, so, am more than happy to read it a second time!

Not really meant as flattery... but respect and truth!

His songs filled my childhood growing up. They were powerful, warm and invited us to see one another. Those songs filled the car with wing-windows open and radio tuned in, we sang.
