This Wooden Box

This Wooden Box

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

Old love letters

Tattered and torn… Rough around the edges

Like the memories I hold.

The words transparent as a ghost

                  Yet… still visible enough

                           To haunt dreams.

So many pens

         All dried up

From… endless conversations

                           That seems in vain now.

Photographs… images of smiles

         That I can’t find anymore

Even in a house of mirrors.

These are the things I keep

Locked in this wooden box…

I just wish I could throw away the key

Yet it remains around my neck…

                  Close to my heart.

Wonderful feeling.. yes old love letters are so nice.. even torn and tattered ones.. love the last stanzas:

These are the things I keep
Locked in this wooden box
I just wish I could throw away the key
Yet it remains around my neck
Close to my heart.

Very beautiful.. that you would keep those items.. hopefully you remove that key for the next love though .. create a new one and make room for a new love and a brand new box to fill with future great love writings .. never get rid of the old love letters as they do so make such great memories to glance at once in a great while.. I wish I still had my first love's writings but someone destroyed mine sadly.. thank you for sharing!!! =)

Oh Dale.............I really love this one!! Most all of us have had love letters at one time or the other, and this takes me back to days when I had a few! The way you refer to the memory of them, worn and tattered, love gone, but memory so vivid yet, and you with the key so close to your heart as your wear it around your neck...just a wonderful way to compare it to never wanting to let go that special love!
Great love poem...though sad!

Yes I have my own wooden box
I think we all may have one. This
was a very sweet poem, regardless
if they are good or bad memories
the fact is that they are memories
memories, that pieced who you are
today!

it is something when a person has this deep lasting affect on us and we can't forget them even when we try. It is nice when men become vulnerable to a woman, exposed for who he is and you have captured the depth of love that men can reach when they fall for the right woman.

Great imagery. Lots of sadness and loss here.
"So many pens

I like these words the best......seems in vain now. "Dust in the wind....all we are is dust in the wind....."
Sad poem....

aw, that's sweet. I do have a set of letters tucked away. I never could bear to throw those out. . . I used to sneak a read once in a while. Haven't been down that road in years. . . but I wouldn't throw away that key, either. :)
