Silent Night, Deceptive Light

Silent Night, Deceptive Light

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

My mind can’t escape

These melancholy thoughts

Highlighted by lunar lies.

The infinite illusion

Of midnights passion

Covers my heart with

The darkest of desires

Disguised by a twinkle of hope

That may have already faded out.

Somewhere between the shadows

And the dark

Lurks the pains of never was

And the agony of could be.

Selfless acts begin to feel like self defeat

When my reflection is distorted

From ripples in the moon lit lake.

Jumping in becomes an instant obsession

In hopes of becoming wet behind the ear again.

So I make splash and dive right under

To drown out the silence of the night

Only to discover the silence screamed from within.

Now…

Sinking like a stone I say nothing

Cause I didn’t when I was breathing.

This is a excellent poem, one of my favorites. it swirls like black magic,
black velvet....it would go go with that song too:).

This is dark, sexual, and floods the senses.
It's like a feeling of surrendering to a fantasy, a desire
and being swept away.

Trying to figure out what the last lines mean....didn't say anything when
I was breathing...hmmm....

Great work!

WOW. this is breath taking. i love the darkness of it, the melancholy tone. i can relate to this poem. "My mind can't escape these melancholy thoughts" been there. too many times to count. i love the metaphor of night and these dark depressed thoughts. a deep, thought-provoking, perfectly executed poem.

Dale....so remorseful and sad, but beautifully written with words that penetrate the spirit. Your references to lunar lies, midnight passion, moon lit lake all add a special ambiance to the "dark night of the soul" atmosphere of this piece.
I really like this deeply expressive write!
