Children Of The Night

Children Of The Night

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

In this midnight masquerade

Secrets are hidden

On the dark side of the moon

While the bold side

Looks down upon me with a smile,

Or is it a snicker?

Can he see the real me?

The one who walks amongst

The down and out using the shadows

As a blanket of security,

So I can understand

Why they find the blue skies

A curse born of sin.

Or does he see me as One

Who should remain in the dark

Cause my eyes were tainted

By the nocturnal side of human nature

Therefore being poisoned

By impurities that society heeds.

Could the moon be so blinded

By what the sun reflects on him?

I think not…

              Or why else

Would he gravitate here

Every night to turn negative light

Into a positive glow

So the children of the night

Have a reason to believe.

Maybe I am better off

Staying here,

With the man in the moon

For his wisdom

Far out weighs

Any superficial intelligence

The sun can cast light upon.

Wow! This was such a great write! It's so powerful. My favorite parts were,
"As a blanket of security,
So I can understand
Why they find the blue skies
A curse born of sin."

and

"I think not
Or why else
Would he gravitate here
Every night to turn negative light
Into a positive glow"

"In this Midnight Masquerade," the beginning is a good headline, and keeps the
reader wanting to continue.

This is a great reflection of the darker side of one who many
don't understand, and take heed to stay away from. How one looks
at the world and still feels like everyone else.

The light of the moon the only reason to believe, and to know that a small part
is human, normal just like everybody else.

"Any superficial intelligence

The sun can cast light upon."

Very blunt, yet a understanding ending.

Great work CW!

Isn't it strange.. you are with and see the Man in the Moon, whereas i see Mistress Moon, who is kind and benevolent, all seeing, all shining!

This an incredible poem, powerful and mysterious, gentle yet thrusting up and up into the unknown...

'Or does he see me as One / Who should remain in the dark / Cause my eyes were tainted / By the nocturnal side of human nature / Therefore being poisoned / By impurities that society heeds.'

The moon has two faces, just as Man has two faces, the dark and the light.. we can't do much about the moon, only ourselves. I rather think you see that..

Great write.. one of your very finest.

Great write! The questions posed in the poem are questions that are well developed through one psyche and makes one search for the true answers. Also, the piece is a wonderful image of the night creatures. :) The Sparkles are deeply impressed as usual. :) These are my favorite lines:
Or does he see me as One/ Who should remain in the dark /Cause my eyes were tainted
and
Maybe I am better off/Staying here,/With the man in the moon.

Wonderful write my friend!

I think i like these lines the best because you may be able to see the dark
but sometimes often we don't really stay out of the dark. We travel the
way we see fit and not by the light we should, we take the light for granted
at times.

All - n- all this is a wonderful write and I really like how you summed this
write up as well, very powerful write you have penned here.

Almost surreal......questioning where the real power is. It is a game in this stage of life! A balancing act, and we may use a security blanket, or relax in a beach chair in the sun......but, the sun shines on....though the power of the moon is strong at times! The sun burns hot, while the moon is cold and casts shadows. The sun sends shadows away!
Brilliant write!!

Great lines, Dale. I'm a luna-tic myself! :)

I think you are not exactly who you present to the world. There is a much more sensitive man under the cowboy hat.
