The Hardest Part Is The Night

The Hardest Part Is The Night

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

As the sun runs away

From another day

Leaving the sky's soul black

The time I dread is here

For it is a portal to

The lonely side of my soul.

Where stars remind me

There is too much distance

Between me and you…

And moonbeams accentuate

The shadows that

Play tag with my heart.

Teasing it with hidden

Thoughts beneath

Their cold smoke and mirror

Existence to my lonesome reality

Whose bite is far worse

Then the bark killing the silence.

Yet no matter how isolated

The witching hour

Bestows upon my incomplete heart

I will ride out

My time in purgatory

Even if it means dying alone.

For I could never just be

With a nameless face

That has no mind of their own

Or a heart of stone

Just for the pleasure

Of having someone to hold.

When the clock strikes midnight

I’d rather play

Solitaire with my soul

Cause I can’t be with someone

Just to be there

Even though…

The hardest part is the night.

For I could never just be

With a nameless face

That has no mind of their own

Or a heart of stone

Just for the pleasure

Of having someone to hold.

and.........

Cause I can't be with someone

Just to be there

I love it!! you just wont take anyone to just to have someone, the intelect and

Another amazing piece. Your words about being lonely and taking a stand to be alone whether than just having anyone. You want someone real... Amazing piece.

This is sooooo real, sincere, heartfelt. Loneliness is an ache, and how it hurts when the night's dark and you turn over and nobody's there. Whatever you try to feel, whatever you tell yourself, you find those times are the worst and the ones that make you cry from inside out.

'The time I dread is here / For it is a portal to / The lonely side of my soul.'

Yet another beautiful and beautifully presented piece of writing, Dale.

The night brings out the strongest sense of loneliness...but seems to, oddly enough, bring me to life the most. Maybe it's the loneliness? Excellent write!

The night always brings out the loneliness in our lives. To miss someone this much is a shame but to be true to yourself and suffer through it is just wise. Never settle for anything less than your hearts desire. another wonderful write by you.

a portal to the lonely side of my soul (ah this is so beautiful! grasps my emotions..)
shadows that play tag with my heart (another great spot! ...i like your descriptions...)

the whole piece is great. it had that idea that it has to be the right one and if not it's not worth it.

Loved it again!

Dale, this is undoubtedly one of my all time favorites from you. Wow. I felt as though I was watching an episode of 'Angel'....

The metaphors are spectacular, images.... brilliant, and I don't say that lightly, passion and pain... undeniable, theme... classic. I'm reading and carefully trying to determine exactly which is my favorite stanza. I can't because each one is just so damn powerful.

portals...black soul of the sky....witching hour....smoke mirrors...shadows playing tag...and then...

The clock strikes midnight, reminding you that you are alone, yet knowing alone is better than to settle with someone who doesn't really make your heart skip a beat, or someone who takes away part of your soul instead of completing it and making you feel truly alive.

The hardest part is the night for many of us, my dear friend. Compelling final line. Wow, Dale. This one draws me in as though I located a portal as I am taken to another dimension.

Dale, have you been peeping into my heart?!? I can't believe how easy I related to this poem!
"As the sun runs away From another day" this is a great opening ...
"Where stars remind me

There is too much distance

Between me and you

And moonbeams accentuate

The shadows that

Play tag with my heart."
using the distance of the stars to show the distance you feel in your heart when you are away from your love- really packed a punch w/ this stanza!

I am sure there are many people who have felt this way at one time on life, or are destined to. Love often plays cruel jokes on our hearts, doesn't she? To love someone completely when they can't give all of themselves to you...the cruelest joke of all.
