When Happy Endings Are Grey

When Happy Endings Are Grey

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

a white boy's rambling rap.

"

A hypocritical oath

From society’s scapegoat

Choking on the words

Not meant to be heard.

Cheers will be amended

Fear to be commended

Pain is the logical way

When salvation sways.

Emotions now earth tones

Like graves of the unknown

Paid the price deleting dreams

With sticks ‘n’ stone schemes.

Following the yellow brick road

Won’t bring Dorothy home

At least not in one piece

Now that Toto’s a disease.

Sad, sad .. shadowy dreams and hope diluted. If i've understood this rightly, you're talking about the sense of abandonment and disillusionment caused by society in general; its turning on itself.

That lovely 'over the rainbow' dream ruined, ' Paid the price deleting dreams ~ With sticks ‘n’ stone schemes.

Deep stuff, Dale .. and worth thinking about.

Powerful work of disillusionment. Our fancies of youth cast away by slowly revealed reality. Great beat work on this too.

This is filled with disappointment, pain and lots of anger. This seems to me to be a rant on society but a lot of the meaning, I think, can mean different things to different people. A brilliant write here!

There is such a sad longing here... looking back yet knowing one must move ahead into the darkness... You painted the world in such poignant cooler colors..

....ah but me being me dear Cowboy..I simply say "every cloud has a silver lining"....and there is a reason for everything.. also whenever you see a rainbow remember God is Love....(well that's what I sing to my creche) .

Great poem here with depth.
Great words from a warm heart.

I laughed at first by the "white boy's rambling rap"...LOL!!! I still find that funny:) But then I read and damn RRC....this kind of made me sad! Beautiful in form, lyric and flow. The message is a bit haunting. I've always idientified with Dorothy, but you cant bet your a*s I am now going to drop that b***h Toto! Deleting dreams, sticks 'n' stones a yellow brick road...It's hard to imagine and I gulp when i think what does my child dream about and hope for. My interp may be way off....but the world is a wish wash and I think it takes all one has to hold on and hope, dream of better tomorrows. Wonderful write!
