When Happy Endings Are Grey

When Happy Endings Are Grey

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

a white boy's rambling rap.

"

A hypocritical oath

From society’s scapegoat

Choking on the words

Not meant to be heard.

Cheers will be amended

Fear to be commended

Pain is the logical way

When salvation sways.

Emotions now earth tones

Like graves of the unknown

Paid the price deleting dreams

With sticks ‘n’ stone schemes.

Following the yellow brick road

Won’t bring Dorothy home

At least not in one piece

Now that Toto’s a disease.

Sad, sad .. shadowy dreams and hope diluted. If i've understood this rightly, you're talking about the sense of abandonment and disillusionment caused by society in general; its turning on itself.

That lovely 'over the rainbow' dream ruined, ' Paid the price deleting dreams ~ With sticks ‘n’ stone schemes.

Deep stuff, Dale .. and worth thinking about.

I like the open ending which makes everyone put there on spin on it,

A little "Oz" in there adds a nice touch. The third stanza really hits home. Cool ending too!

I'm a huge Wizard of Oz fan, so of course I love the last stanza. But what happened to poor Toto? Ha! Love it!

Wonderful metaphors .. extremely well written on this one, Dale.
Love that you have used the yellow brick road , Dorothy and Toto..
Very good imagery.

Love this verse:

"Emotions now earth tones

Like graves of the unknown

Paid the price deleting dreams

With sticks ‘n’ stone schemes."

We all feel pretty let down as a society - regardless of our nationality. This global f-up is surely criminal, somewhere along the line? Good rant cowboy. You've got me thinking all poetic. Thank you. :)

This shows many problems in society. I love the creativity that used to convey the message in this poem.
