Antitank rockets used as car bombs had a distinct sound like Allah's hammer smashing the ground Not like C4 Or antitank mines Not like those kind Explosions and rounds had different sounds Airstrikes were different they were your guys even when they landed really close by rattle your head beat up your brain concussions a plenty ruptured ear veins
The women they wailed It was a cultural thing expressing their grief What America brings It was f*****g unnerving I tell you no lies You wanted to shoot them You want them to die It was hard to feel sorry They were killing Marines We shouldn't have been there but that meant nothing It was us verses them it was basic as f**k we had the one up they were s**t out of luck We got to leave They had to stay I'm mostly indifferent I'm coping that way Cherish your moments Cherish your dreams life is precarious not what it seems You have no clue how lucky you are to live in a world with no car bombs
"life is precarious
not what it seems
You have no clue
how lucky you are
to live in a world
with no car bombs "
This was a powerful write and so commendable. You have a great heart of compassion and understanding. It is all sad what is going on in so many countries. Thank you for raising this awareness and the sad truth about the human sorry state in our modern times...:)
I, for one, know exactly how lucky we are right now. But we have to work at ensuring we stay lucky - after all - everyone remembers the vivid pictures of NY, NY on 9/11. We weren't so lucky that day and God forbid we ever have to see pictures like that again. On that day the women did not wear burkas but their faces looked at lot like the faces of the women in your photo. Thanks for reminding us, BR, we must never forget!
Mark, the realities you have described are heartbreaking, and do remind me to be grateful... You bring us right into it, and then lead us to the comforts of home...
I think it's only a matter of time before we start seeing them here. One almost went off in times square in N.Y a couple of years back. I used to get in to see concerts right near the same corner so I walked that way many times. I'm sure it won't be with the same frequency as you see in the middle east but I think it's only a matter of time. The world is not getting any safer or better. Good poem Ric.

The first wtc attack was a car bomb as well. There's no doubt there will be more but they will be isolated incidents. The American way of mass murder seems to be shooting sprees.
