Sunrise.

Sunrise.

A Poem by Nicole Doherty

I don’t sleep anymore,
No, not like I used to,
And while the moon slowly fades,
I lie awake and watch the shades
of fluorescent white,
turn to yellow light,
and wonder what it’s like
for those who don’t see
a sunrise every night.

And the ones around me,
they say to get some sleep.
but the ones around me,
they eventually become
ghosts of people
I swore I once knew.

So I trust my instincts,
and stay up to watch the colors change,
because the only certainty in my life,
is the sunrise that comes every night.
