I WISH HE WOULD STOP POSTING POEMS

I WISH HE WOULD STOP POSTING POEMS

A Poem by Eddie Phillips

So Eddie was writing poetry
I thought it was all a bit sad
I didn't think anyone read it
I thought they pretended so he didn't feel bad

Truth is I got tired of his incessant writing
It seemed like he posted poems all the time

I thought:

Who did he think he was?
Why should we care what is on his mind?

If you asked me he was just lonely
He was stationed alone overseas
So on Facebook people just pushed "Like"
They did it to set his lonely mind at ease

For a while I just stopped responding
Then I just dropped him as a FB friend
Man I was so darn happy!
I wouldn't see his silly poems again

Two weeks have passed and today was just horrible
Problems just continued to come my way
I found myself looking for a moment of clarity
I started reflecting on a poem on Eddie's page

It was one I had read fully; which for me was a bit strange
At the time it was nothing special but the words stayed inside my brain
It had this one line of comfort; it rang through the chaos of my day
"God watches over all his children, and by our side he will always stay"

See I didn't think I would miss Eddie's poems
I never thought I would even care
They were just stupid little poems
Something he posted to show he was there
Yet, this world is so crazy
Problems after problems arise each day
I had to admit Eddie's stupid little poems
Helped bring a little sunshine to my chaotic day

Tonight I sent him a friend request
I hope he will reconnect as a friend
Man it is going to feel real good
To read his silly poems again!

Author's Note

Eddie Phillips
I post a lot of poems and as a writer i know everyone doesn't like it. I however think the writer writes to bring a little light to the world. I think people notice the light is gone once the writer stops expressing himself. Keep writing you never know who you touch.

Great thoughts, Eddie. Your poetry is very fine and you do indeed bring light to your readers. Every poet carries his or her own candle and each poem we read imparts more light into our lives.

Writing is a way for people to express themselves. When I personally can't find the words, I write them or let music speak it for me. I think your work is amazing and you should always write and don't ever feel that people won't like something cause it's "Too sad" your work is deep and I like it a lot :)

Your "little poems" are anything but stupid, Eddie, and they certainly do bring sunshine to a chaotic day. I know this feeling; is anyone really reading these? Do my words matter? But then one person says that your poem lifted their spirits... Totally worth it! Great one here, Eddie!
