CONGRESS OF THE HEART (SERVICE TO MAN) *UNFINISHED

CONGRESS OF THE HEART (SERVICE TO MAN) *UNFINISHED

A Poem by Eddie Phillips
"

I tried to find the words but I think this poem is largely unfinished.

"

We fought for you and bled for you.
We gave all we had from the very start.
I witnessed the unspeakable as my friends were blown apart.

You never saw us falter we never chose to run.
We all stood up proudly; some falling with their gun.
I lost my lower legs; my best friend lost his life.
He left behind three kids and his loving wife.

Now you refuse to help us; you cut programs and pay.
You forget all the sacrifices we made and those lost every day.
We never asked you for anything as we gave our country pride.
Now when we need your help, you choose to run and hide.

We fought for you and bled for you.
We gave all we had from the very start.
It is not so much to ask for a Congress of the heart.

If you support the military then give us what is due.
Give us what we earned by giving our all for you.
I guess because you never served you cannot fully understand.
Service is not about the money; its about helping your fellow man.
