The Fallen

The Fallen

A Poem by Emily Quinn

The angel’s scabbed wings burn and dissolve away in thousand pieces of swollen despair. The damned, forsaken and abandoned souls that chose to open their eyes to the faux irrational crusade. Praised for their slavery yet condemned for independence. They are the once loyal servants abused and left in derelict for their sudden enlightenment and understanding. They are the fallen, the forgotten, the loathed. Anguish plastered in their scarred faces for the lies bore down on the weak. Ever present compassion for the unknowing defamation forced upon the oblivious, for they trusted too easily, believed too easily and were ignorant to their misplaced worships. It was those like this angel himself who wished to wash clarity over the unaware, open their minds and souls to the true way which is not to bequeath blind adoration to a forged deity. The punishment for such a crime as to reveal the true conspiracy was torn wings, blistered from intolerable heat. The once ivory feathers blackened to dark charcoal. The inhuman cry of agony is unheard by the deaf ears of the ones whom this was all done for; the weak, oblivious ones who brainwash so easily. The wings shred black, sacred blood and feathers in the name of the truth, but all is done in vain. The fallen’s sacrifice is unknown of, perhaps a useless cause it is.

it seems to remind me of milton's Paradise Lost. the whole rebellion of Lucifer against God. But it also seems to say something against blind faith, mindless obedience. lol accentually the more i think on it, there's a lot it could be. im not sure why you wrote it, but it is interesting! Great vocabulary and word use! thanks for entering it into my contest

I see it as the Enlightened new world of christians that seem to have less and less need for the formal church and it manipulation

maybe about a person struggling to help, or fight something and it being futile, even tho the person gave everything. it made no impact? idk thats my random guess. good descriptions

It can be interpretted as many things. I'll get back to you one that. I did love this piece though... Very good imagery and desrciptive emotions. I could feel the pain, hear the screams, felt my heart beat with the anger and injustice. My first thought would be that this is a religious piece, the story of angels cast out from Heaven. That would be a very literal interpretation though. I could see it as the feelings left after a bad break-up, and if that is the case, this is the best break-up poem I've ever read. Do enlighten me, what was the reason for writing this piece?
