the gentle fall from the cliff

the gentle fall from the cliff

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the gentle fall from the cliff

i have a random exactness
when it comes to your heart
i am obliviously cognizant
of my feelings,

deliriously scared,
emphatically unsure
intuitively absent of sense

and mostly,
carefully unconcerned with the risk,

i feel like falling hard on the pleasured pillows
even if they end  up,
filled with rocks.

To fall so hard, completely, and swiftly is the most exhilarating love of all. The reckless abandon throws caution to the wind; and whether we land soft or hard, it doesn't matter. It's that leap of faith that makes it worth it all. I really love this, particularly the ending. Beautiful!

nicely said, Linda...your response is better than the poem itself...

From the title to the delightful wordplay that follows, you illustrate a very basic truth--the notion of a loving relationship has more than a little of the oxymoron to it, and yet we keep jumping even though we know the rocks are all but certain to be there. Tight, taut, and true.

to fall and to be dashed upon the rocks of love, what a way to fly :)

so true, lynn....
thank you,

Taking leap of faith can bring the pain of hard times, but given time it will lead to the comfort from believing.

Clearly obscure.
I'd say, in this relationship, you don't hold many of the cards.
Cleverly and creatively composed!

thank you for your words, Jimmy---

"this abstract toying with the loves moral argument suggests a perspective on modernity powerfully at odds with William Wordsworth's 19ht century dictum that poetry be emotions recollected in tranquility".
It is not always tranquil and it does not always allow your soul to land upon the rocks safely. Yet it
is always the stuff of good embellishment

well done my friend.....dana

The juxtaposition of polarities works really well. Seems a little more deliberately a balance of opposites than even your usual catachresis. It feels like the synthesis creates a vibration.
I love the ironic added balance of opposites in the last stanza, "falling pillows" "end up"
I know you are a well respected poet on this site, but I wonder how many people know just how really insanely good you ARE?
