no cream or sugar, please

no cream or sugar, please

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

no cream or sugar, please

spread as thin as a light jam

on toasted thoughts,

the words swirl like slippery butter

but don't stick,

the sliding pendulum of creativity

eats breakfast elsewhere,

so i just smoke my cigarette

down to the last gasp of ash

and put out the stub of a poem

that almost found its way,

further than the ashtray

of my exhaled etymology

containing roots of inspiration

which led me to believe

i was more than a shallow cup of coffee,

without the diffusion of theme

to lighten my black mood.

The stimulants of a late night poet with that elusive masterpiece of mind comes forth in writing in thought lol. A clever write Jacob. I'm glad I no longer smoke too! Top notch as always setting that hard to reach bench mark as you raise the bar from me once more lol!

And in the background, your fans are singing- "Pour some sugar on me"...lol. You are inspiring even in your lack of inspiration Jacob. You my friend are I'one of those writers that makes the rest of us feel inadequate at times, because you are prolific and have consistently high standards for even your scribbles. That's not something most of us can sustain.

Ya, well, I prefer my coffee (eye opener) strong and robust, anyway. Cream and sugar dilute the taste of why I drink it in the first place. So, keep pouring me that dark roast Columbian and I will happily sip myself awake :)
