A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

extra tutoring

spit shined, patent leather smoke

emotions on fire,

4th grade sway

she passes my desk,

i stare into the inkwell,

no words, just a crimson face

embarrassed expression mum

i write her beauty in my mind

young heart aflutter with intentions

dreaming during recess

of access to her smile

but i know for me,

there will only be a passing fancy

she won't notice my trembling pen

trying to get the courage

to whisper "hello"

into her waiting arms

and the lips craving to be part

of her lunch---

so i can carry her books home from school

for the rest of our lives.

This is cute...about teenage memories of crush or admiration. As adults, we only reminisce those times when we see the young ones acting like us in the past.
Thanks for sharing this, sir.

This is definitely what I used to feel when I saw my crush during my high school breaks. I don't know why, but suddenly I feel like visiting my alma mater.

Thanks for this great poem. It brought me some wonderful memories from my teen years. Thanks a lot and what a wonderful poem! :)

Haha. The old school crush! Yes, we all had these; and more often than not nothing came from them.
The were innocent and sweet and we remember them forever.

A lovely trip down memory lane.
Thanks, Jacob.

Ah the memories of Becky Bradley, walking her home by way of the short cut in the woods behind school. Saturday's going to the lake to feed ducks.
She was the first. I wonder where she is today. Thanks for the memories!

Oh yeah.....I love this..
I loved Audrey Payton so much but she hated me. And each and every time she got the opportunity
she told me just how much he hated me, which didn't dim my love for her one iota...lol
I don't know if "courage" is the right word when your in the 4th grade..It's more like
the beginnings of a risky thing that will follow you for the rest of your life. I read somewhere that
young boys who were spurned in their attempts at love were the same one's who
jumped on hand-grenades to save their comrades in battle.

I am blown away by the volume of poetry you turn out each and every day..I can (the rest of us can)
only dream of being able to think so clearly......great poem...dana

I do believe my heart was beating a bit faster while reading this. It has such an eloquence to it, revealing the one we fall so hard for - "trying to get the courage to whisper hello".

Your ending was worth a thousand sonnets...much applause, Jacob!

My pleasure, indeed!
I feel like my mind has echoed this a thousand times in my life... I suppose it was even the truth a few times too.

good writing.

Ah fourth grade is such a wondrous time. Everyone is on the cusp, but the mere mention of love brings crimson cheeks and down cast lashes lost in those puppy-love crushes. It is a pure and sweet time of life.
