taking the house for a walk

taking the house for a walk

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

taking the house for a walk

placate,

then vacate,

hearts live in transient station

pay the rent,

don't buy into love

or that abhorrent trust in gratification

movement staves off

the mesmerizing involvement

and picket fence expectation

while the dog makes a mess

in the back yard of memories

a little house of hope faces demolition…

Another lovely piece. I find my thoughts are now confounded, as this poem has stimulated multiple avenues of interpretation. My confusion is pleasing though, as this poem has left with me with the pleasure to ponder it, a while.
Salute,
D

What sustains a relationship is a strong commitment and when we cannot give our full commitment our relationship is doomed to fail.

I just had a Brand-new experience. After reading it, My mind was hi-jacked to a cartoon-like vision.
I saw a thin stray dog running around the street and onto the houses property as the owner took down the picket fence that was sorely un-cared for and in need of a scraping and paint.
The owner then started carrying it in sections to the curb.
A wrecking crew showed up and had to wait till they were done moving the fence to the curbside.
out of no where a homeless family carried their cardboard shelter and traded the cardboard for the fencing.
The Husband of this homeless crew took a large dog leash and chained and wrapped it around the house and started walking away with it as the stray dog and family with fence took it all away and reset it all up. Then I saw more homeless carrying road curb furnishing while some were cleaning it and furnishing the house.
They all had happy appreciative smiles and gaiety.
Wow.... I guess what i saw was the first owners had no appreciation of the home. They didn't know what they had. But others did. Neat.. I never had a visual reading someone else's writing like this before. Hmm I think your hitting on my creative button today lol

what a painfully sad write - makes me think of abandoned buildings - give just enough to get enough back - no strings attached - no commitment - just get what you need, give them what they need - and be on your own way

great writing, jacob

We do the walking, but it makes no difference when the house has memory seeped into its very walls.

Better perhaps to pay the rent that take a mortage out.

Absolutely wonderful poem Jacob.

i remember once when a home stood for generations
and something so sacred resided within its walls
the memories living through time

things have changed
this fast life has taken away our concept of such a solid home

yes, the fast life has done that...such a truth...thank you, RiverSided

Hey, we all bought into the white picket fence ideal and the lies Donna Reed told. Things are not the same as they were in the fifties and sixties and I am not sure they were REALLY that way back then. Times have changed, but we still have that fantasy in our brains. You are into rhyming today...I like it. Lydi**

QUITE a bit!
The house and family and those familial traditions are changing.... this piece perfectly reflects those ideals under threat. Brilliant technique.

yes, we are losing those ideals...thank you so much for your insights, Circe.

You have the most interesting ways of infusing that crazy thing called love into every day life. This piece feels sad and hopeless - like the demolition ball is swinging in all directions. That white picket fence of assumed perfection isn't for everyone and in many cases is just an illusion and not reality. If we can see through the illusion we may just find what true love really is :)
