the purge

the purge

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the purge

i'm a bulimic heart

when i dine on love,

part of me heaves it right out of my system

don't want the weight of a relationship

feel safer with thinner inner feelings

goodbye is my favorite meal

easier to digest

and less embarrassing

when i can hide in my own commode

of fear.

I think we can feel it when a relationship causes a nauseating discomfort with our inner thoughts. The voice inside knows its time to move on and skip the romance in front of us. It just doesn't feel right. I've been there.

Your themes are a strong as ever Jacob. Nice one.

"Goodbye is my favorite meal"...what a fantastic line! So many try to purge love out of their systems, but I don't think it is possible. Remnants always remain and the love regenerates. Loved this one. Lydi**

The open honesty of this poem is deeply touching. I like the way the theme unravels, the language and its soul. Excellent poem. 100/100

Being cautious of relationships can be two edged. Does it make you stronger or more vulnerable?
I found the last line of your poem the most disturbing .
Don't throw out the baby with the bath water. Jacob.

I really connected to this. The metaphor is not one I ever would have expected, yet it fits perfectly.

Commitment can be a scary thing... I know I feel suffocated sometimes in a relationship, even when I love the person.

well ...men are from Mars after all! :) always enjoy your metaphors and this particularly fresh look at a man in love "not" ... oh how we run ... i am no different ..and do think form time to time of all the loves i ran away from ... and only because of fear ..what a pity and what an a*s i say to myself ...i read a book by Kahlil Gibrand ...one of the things he wrote was never to reject love offered ..if one keeps an honest heart themselves it is a good thing

i hear you brother! :}
The comparison here that you have mad here is exceptional. Dining on love and then heaving it out- the concept is metaphoric and clever. Beautifully inked. Keep writing.
