nothing left for that rainy day

nothing left for that rainy day

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

nothing left for that rainy day

swiftly accumulating a piggy bank

filled with coins of regrets,

life hasn't made the sense

i hoped it would...

saving memories seems a trifle now

all i spent on love, in love and about love

no money back guarantees for the heart

we put steep down payments on emotions

and then live broke on the interest,

or better yet, the disinterest,

hardly a quarter left for the gum ball machine

we stroll down memory lane

panhandling for a few golden smiles

but copper facsimiles is all we get

and a ceramic belly bloated

with compunction.

panhandling for a few golden smiles
and this ceramic bloated belly...

to be fully accepted- past the flutter

thinking your money related to love is so fascinating
Can't buy me love! makes me want to sing it

You've penned many of my own feelings on such things . . . regret, nostalgia, & feeling broke, all tumbling along within your imaginative words. I especially love the first two lines of 2nd stanza, as an expression of how we've spent everything "on love, in love, & about love" . . . leaving us broke & disinterested nowadays.

What a superb piece! I could not help but notice your impeccable use of imagery and even a dash of situational irony, "saving memories seems a trifle now all i spent on love, in love and about love
no money back guarantees for the heart..." The heart is so easy to manipulate and break which I believe bestows the result of heartless bodies continuing the depicted cycle. Thank you for sharing! I am excited to read more.

We're all saving for that inevitable rainy day, even when there's too much month left at the end of the money. You certainly bring it all into retrospect, Jacob. Your words here are golden, for sure!
