on that rocking horse saddle

on that rocking horse saddle

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

on that rocking horse saddle

like morphing from rock to country

i inverted pavement

into a save meant to break my city soul

down to earthen roots

under open skies

and tree lined hearts

shading the centrifugal force

that kept me going in concrete circles

with scraped knees and ruined jeans

the patches grew like acorns

from the woods that sang songs to me

with a little more twang

but a whole lot more bang

for my rural buck.

I admit I had to read this twice to glean every crafty reference . . . but I eventually came out with my own country-living preference . . . remembering how moving to this spot was also "a save" for my "city soul" (which had become rather soulless surrounded by concrete). My favorite: the last 2 lines where you transform a cliché making it sing with originality! *smile* (((HUGS)))

Hi J the title reminded me of the movie "the rocking horse winner" I liked this write, probably Neil Young for country rock , like Lydia I'm more into the 70's progressive rock bands. The poem was spot on by the way!

My Dad would never let us buy the jeans pre-faded or with holes like the style, he said it was a ridiculous waste of money and a life. He said you buy the jeans and then live the faded holes into them, otherwise it's just a farce for fad.

Not sure I will ever be a country girl....whether in music genre or home. Loved the line, "scraped knees and ruined jeans"....if the country sounds pull you in, best to go with it. For me, classic rock will always be an inspiration. Good one. Lydi**

j. I remember when our local radio station moved from country to rock. I live in the shadow of Motown, but grew up listening to everything, big band, Texas swing, the Opry. There is something simple and honest about country music I still enjoy. Thanks for the ride.

There is something about your poetry that speaks to all hearts Jacob...an emotion throughout that gives the reader a feeling to your words, not just a block of letters but far more than that...your writing has a tone of its own, magnificent :)

Very nice use of metaphors, jacob. Metaphorical imagery disguised as plain description "down to earthen roots under open skies"
