the pretender

the pretender

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the pretender

lifeless,

another shovel full of indifference

thrown on the grave

as the poet's eyes

glazed with apathy

stare at the keys

trying to write the epitaph

with some profound apology

to all who read his shallow words

wishing his tomb

to be deeper than he.

"Men's courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if persevered in, they must lead. But if the courses be departed from, the ends will change. say it is thus with what you show me" "Ebenezer Scrooge.

It has always been the test of artistry that the artist creates for the mind of another artist and whomsoever wants to tag along, that's fine too. But unlike poor Ebenezer we will not ever be so magically transformed by the ghosts of either the past or the future. The greatest poetry you can ever read is that which comes straight out of the poets mouth (pen)...untouched by outside influence, political correctness, religion , sex or the duty to keep the innocent from crying. So what if no one remembers..words never die.....

beautiful poem dear brother......

oh man! deceitful walls do come crumbling down ..powerful, compact, deliberate poem ..really does hit me in the chest a good one .. the brutal honesty of the "Beats" is absolutely necessary .. i see myself in that grave .. man .. its horrible! such complete and utter failure ...there is no digging deep enough is there :(( damn!

ps i put this in my favorites to revisit routinely ..as a sober reminder ;}
