standing taller

standing taller

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

standing taller

white trees

the dark silt beneath---

cold front comes in

freezing rain of conscience

that soil stays rich in moisture

may be tears,

may be just the white trees

shedding their icy image

and regaining their own color

a blend of many.

white is absence of color which allows for perfect reflection, yet you have it blending. Standing taller or above the crowd has you standing out but trying to fit in at same time. Interesting, lot of contrasts here that highlight certain aspects personified. Seems little distant to me, but thought provoking nonetheless.

Wow, powerful metaphor j, according to my interpretation anyway. Your opening lines took me there. Like trees when you dial it back we're all the same. R xo

This is a "progressive" immigration-refugee metaphor--hinting at so-called "White Supremacy." Or maybe it's just about some freakin' trees.
I can never tell.

Great metaphor and personification. Nature mirrors the emotions we all feel. We all can "regain color", but it is an inside job. Lydi**

You're describing the naked sycamores clustered along my roaring creek. The contrast between the stark white bark & the newly-muddy surroundings is familiar. Trees stand taller becuz recent storms washed away some of their foundation . . .

Such powerful raw emotions in this piece.
I love how you mixed emotions with nature.

I like the isolation of trees being bare succumbing to winter like our emotions.

and our emotions can chill so easily...a winter of hearts.
thank you,

Colors are the imagination of the eye as white is the only true color, can it paint, can it color? Do Red and Blue really seem different to you? If wave lengths had no travel at all, what would we see? Its time, light and hopes that have manipulated our eyes, for nothing but shadows and glue are what we believe. "At least that's what they say." Colors are still vibring in the wind

lots of valid questions...we are all manipulated in some way...thank you for your words,
j.
I hear footsteps out in your storm. They clap in excitement as colors pour forth.

Al
