Cold Friday in the Rain

Cold Friday in the Rain

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Cold Friday in the Rain

posthumously blue

after hours aura

a sacrilegious offering of rings and bones

and sunken eyes reading the patent

on the underside of a coffin lid, no place to put a book mark

when attention span wanes with wormy foreclosure

clothing rots like rodents on the side of the road

the scent of final thoughts encrypted

on lips opening to rotting teeth,

but the valuable gold fillings smile through

seeds of doubt,

the man talks to himself and knocks on wood

as the stagnant odor of regret

overtakes him

he wishes he had danced one last dance

with love,

before they laid him out

with lead shoes on an altar

he didn't even believe in.

Halloween is rising
through woven dimples
amongst a twisted grin,
shuttered neath fleshy flaps
smoothing two sets of awnings
under binary caterpillars.

Just being silly in the face of the reaper.

A wretchedly sad post, pointing out with extraordinary phrases ie, '.. when attention span wanes with wormy foreclosure' how it is, will be. Having experienced a darling's recent death, I realise more and more that, life is what matters because we can do something about it in a mulitude of ways and finally call, 'I did it my way.. and thus, have few complaints. See you, on the other side!' No eyes to see, no mind to analyse, no more but, BUT, the memories left behind to say only the kindest wore his/her shoes. Perhaps?

You forever write/post words to ponder, weep or smile over.

Knowing, that someday, we will all end up like this, gives one pause, enough to think that we normally have no control over how we shuffle off. But we do have some control over how we live. Dying doesn't frighten me nearly as much, as not having lived, and doing what I'm meant to do. Soulful and introspective writing, Jacob. Awesome work.

I get that feeling sometimes of wasting away in front of the mirror. Rotting slowly from doubt. What's the point? We're all worm food. There is that need for some type of legacy to be left on someones doorstep. Muh. Dark. Your poem is soul crushing. It's true talent to flip from dark to light. Play with both.

I had to read this one because this is the rainiest couple of days we have had in Phoenix in a couple years, although its not cold. Those opening words are a fantastic start, staking down the setting and the tone in 5 words is something to be proud of for sure. The stagnant odor of regret is something I can definitely identify with. This why I am going to be cremated I think...cuz I look bad in lead shoes. What an awesome write, from stem to stern. Thank you!

Oh how delightful..."wormy foreclosure" , "thoughts encrypted", "stagnant odor of regret".....such lovely little morsels. If I could be the protagonist in this poem, such scrumptious words would surely give me faith in that altar ;)

Brilliant poetry, Jacob

and rot we all will eh!? poets can be so critical of our own work i think ...but it is those gold teeth nuggets that make the effort all worth while ... your poem puts me right in the box... comically reading the patent ..i think we just may have some moments before leaving the body for good ...and then leaving the world ...i hope i am not spending them on cynicism .... but i love his grit ... he does have his say tho helpless to resist the hands that prepared and the prayers and eulogies offered ...if we have those moments ;))))))))))))))))))))
