Departed Signature

Departed Signature

there were extenuating circumstances,

but not for the foliage this year,

i think the leaves knew he left earlier than expected

that she suddenly found her color meshed with green lawns

of early exit

no one signed affidavits to the effect

that hearts would understand their brokenness

or that maples don't care to be seen when they turn

they bare souls in a crass November breeze

and tombstones have no names

when the dead silence their tears

i loved you in all seasons

but the coldest ones

still make my memory shiver

and only the smiles you left me

are wardrobe enough

to keep the rest of me warm

through it all.

I think the older we get the more perspective we get on past relationships. The good and the bad.:)

Whoa Jacob! So touching and so beautiful. What a title too. It is amazing how the seasons affect on our moods and memories. How they bring much needed impressions and expressions as humans. Top notch poetry.

You are welcome, sir Jacob.

I loved you in all seasons/but the coldest ones /still make my memory shiver/
and only the smiles you left me/are wardrobe enough/to keep the rest of me warm/through it all.
Those lines spoke to me, putting my feelings into words with more imagery than my own. Gorgeous.

Sometimes, the smiles that are left to us are the only warmth we'll need. You engage the senses in all seasons, Jacob. Good to have you back.

The gift of truly being loved leaves us with sorrow for their passing but never leaves us with regret.
Very beautiful

I feel the end of a cold relationship lingering and the warm memories perhaps too few gently fall away.
I enjoyed this Jacob
