Nightly News Statistics

Nightly News Statistics

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Nightly News Statistics...

fearless hearts

warriors in errant battle

odds uneven

reciprocation is devastation

the bombings, non-stop

shredded core

shrapnel lives led afterward

where were you when

the first arrow was slung

did you kiss the enemy

thinking it was a lover

do sheep bite

when wolves are camouflaged in saintly dress

were you mine

only before the war...

J,
I feel you are addressing hypocrisy in this piece. Who can one really trust!? I think of Gordon Lightfoot's line, "If you could read my mind, what a story my thoughts would tell." In such a dangerous age, how do we tell our enemies from our "lovers?' The key words you use . . . warriors, devastation, bombings, shredded, shrapnel, slung, bite, camouflaged, war . . . all revealing the reality of nightly news . . . of daily life in the world . . . no wonder the number of refugees are on the rise! Every one's looking for a safe place on earth . . . but non exists as long as we cannot trust each other because of the many masks we wear. Often, we writers and poets retreat into art . . . indeed we are all refugees. I wish it were different, but this is how it is. An interesting write my friend.

in the gymnasium after the high school dance, Shirl stuck her tongue down my throat and I could have swore it was love. It wasn't. Nor were many of the other tongues stuck down my throat since.. She hated me but I was the class president. Prof that elections have consequences...great poem....dana

"do sheep bite when wolves are camouflaged in saintly dress" I love this line, and they do not unless they want to blow their cover like red riding hood and the wolf, and I have wondered much the same...what was truly yours without trickery will be truly yours after imho

In battle warriors should have fearless hearts. Braveness allows them to get victory. Wonderful message is transferred through this brilliantly penned poem. This is an excellent poem very well written. ..100/100

You have always been far better than good jacob.. but you just keep getting gooder and gooder.. another one I would have given my eye teeth to have penned... ragged, real, current and true.

Deep...effective imagery.
Although the statsics are grim, I still believe that Love will triumph; that good will win over evil, that it was the resurrection rather than the betrayal that won

It is scary to think that some people we think are loved ones are really loveless humans.

Your Nightly News Statistics has really pushed my buttons and got me thinking. I started to think of the enemy. They are closer than we think.

Great read.
