Shipment of Dreams

Shipment of Dreams

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Shipment of Dreams

new releases,

old releases,

amazon reigns

and we are poisoned by the drops

like some freeze frame rain

we become unglued to movement

but stuck in our own lethargy

pushing keys rather than shopping carts

magic pizzas arriving on electronic carpets

one-touch

one-touch

but not one foot in front of the other

even our cars begin to drive themselves

and park themselves

just like we have

couch potatoes

spilling ketchup on the cushions

with sour cream eyes staring at the b**b tube

fingers dialing,

merchandise miraculously arriving at the doorstep

i wonder what real rain feels like

i forgot,

i was outside once...

i think it felt nice,

Agoraphobia?

isn't that a country near Sudan....

Once upon a time...I was my father's remote control as well as the addition to the rabbit ears...had a party line phone. I don't like using the self-checkout machines that are popping up everywhere nowadays... machines have jobs.
Brick and mortar stores disappearing...but then I guess we can all work for Amazon or Wayfare.

Well, let's cry the blues to the buggy whip makers...blacksmiths and wheelwrights...shall we.
I was going to say hard to see where this is going, but it's not. We'll all be supported by our friendly, well-maintained and efficient government. Shudder.

Pathos closely followed by ironic smirk .. and, whatever else one considers inanely apt

Can only guess there are a few shrugs in the process of reading your as ever fine language. Personally I find the long probe I have on each hand useful, however. Plus tho windows are curtained, believe there are trees outside my window. Oops, just a moment, have to pause, there's a tv special about Cumbria I want to watch.. beautiful scenery!

Yes, yes and yes.. your writing covers today's goings=on, how it is for us creatures given everything but the power to fly or diveto the sea floor. Machinery is now a package of tools; so far free of charge but have heard that

)Think we've covered this topic elsewhere ages agoL how thought's gradually being overtaken by cerebral whirls gone wild.. but then HG Wells and Verne knew a thing or two, yes?!

That's good, how it should be. :)
Very nice poem. Where I was born and raised, none of us had cars of fancy stuff to make the jobs easier. I had to do farming at age 4 and everything was done by hand. It was hard work and I was often beaten growing up for not doing the work quickly enough.

"beaten for not doing the work quickly enough" that is awful, Jung...never should happen.

That was how I was raised. I always thought it was normal to be honest.
I hear you on this one Jacob, they talk about computers and AIs taking over our lives one day, but I think it already has.... can we honestly say we are human??? or is it more that we are a physical extension of our "toys"... as we lose our humanness I hear the words "resistance is futile, you will be assimilated"....

nicely written Jacob... by the way, do not pick up that amazon package sitting outside your front door... er… lol

Reminds me of the movie wall-e. We’ve all been sitting so long, its hard to tell if we can get back up. This too troubles me. I work in the automotive industry, so I see a lot of this.
Ive sat in the same room as people texting each other on their phones, even though they are all right there. It’s not right.

And Amazon (along with many other companies) pay no taxes. I have thought about what this laptop is doing to my health. I mentioned it on this site many years ago.

I remember the very first remote control I ever saw for TV. Companies want to and have been trying to make life easier for society to function and gain a profit by doing it. Yet, little by little they are destroying us too.

We are becoming electronic zombies. Look around, everyone is on a gadget of some kind in order to keep themselves occupied. It makes you wonder what someone who lived in the early nineteen-hundreds would think if they could come back and look around.

We certainly have become more sedentary as a society, that's for sure.

For many, you describe what has become the norm especially for younger generations. People glued to their phones, TV or computer keyboard who don't know what fresh air and exercise is like or how liberating it can be. As someone who was brought up in the countryside after the age of seven, we were never indoors, always out having adventures. Maybe eventually if it continues this way we will lose the ability to walk as well as the ability to communicate face to face. There's a thought to ponder on. Good topical write questioning where we are going Jacob.

Love the satire in this one Jacob. The vitriol and disgust at all of us is palpable as you rant and expose the extent to which we have become less active and soon will not need to ever interact face to face with other humans. A real concern picked up in a relevant and apt first class poem!
