Rough Draft Forevermore

Rough Draft Forevermore

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Rough Draft Forevermore

drafts, pre-writes

re-writes

themes

dreams

choices in prosaic terms

confined to a certain form

introductions to conclusions

and all that is in-between

that is what we mean.

life relayed to the page

pretending to be sage

capturing an autobiography

in poetry.

we realize

we would be more wise

to revise

again and again

and admit we are a work in progress

never a finished poem...

Given my lack of insight I consider myself an abstract of the most extreme nature LOL To say I love these lines would be... wait what was my position? This is all quite clever:) Jacob

thank you for your kind words, bunny,
j.
Occasionally, a work, stalled.
And, let's face it, we often just settle; most are not built for unending revisions--
an even less likely activity when faced with the pressure of coming up with
enough posts to participate in community writing.
Still, our shaky poetic hammer does, from time to time, manage to strike
a lyrical nail or two, squarely.
Excellent poem, Jacob!

love your insights here, Jimmy...you are so spot on...
thank you,
j.
J, without a doubt, one of my favorites from the past two years. Perhaps it's because I identify with every line. You've captured not only the art and love of poetry, but the doubt that streams through us, a common undercurrent we all ride and sometimes drown in. May I suggest you not re-write? Poem and poet great as is.

Whimsy of the highest order. Ironic and clever. This hits all the spots.
