Nightfall

Nightfall

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Nightfall

violence

is the Purple Gang

a Valentine's massacre

but everyone is wearing masks

no identification possible

passion

with lips covered as if they were a grave

can we dig into this virus anxious world?

let lips touch?

What if Romeo and Juliet had to social distance?

they would ignore the edict

suffer an alternative double suicide

tongues meet by the wall

speak

touch

the dialogue is

a Valentine's massacre

the hearts are like chocolate covered cherries

the insides soft, warm, tasty

but everyone is only half-seen

smiles masked

flirtation a lost art

the Purple Gang

is dead

i am going to kiss you

anyway.

You're welcome
You better hurry for that last kiss, you know there's a night curfew! With so many freedoms and liberties I don't think you'll ever get rid of covid in America and being a virus maybe never. We have no cure for herpes, HPV , common cold to name a few even Ebola. As always nicely written.

I fear you are right, andrew.
thank you for your response to this.

I don't think flirtation is a lost art, as long as we can do it from six feet. Kissing is another thing. Maybe the chiropractors can help us there.

ah you are too funny, John....Chiropractors could get a lot of business with that.

Brilliant juxtaposition of R&J's suicide possibilities! Also clever to use Valentine's Day Massacre to compare covid to the mob, with mob tactics of mowing people down & making them wonder with whom one might mingle safely. I wonder if our over-burgeoning world population will subside over time, due to covid deaths & a dearth of covid births? (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Therapeutics have improved dramatically; vaccine is just over the horizon.
Death rate, now, extremely low.
Go ahead and kiss her.

Ha ha....reckless abandon.
thank you, Jimmy,

Isn't it strange, America and Britain have the highest numbers of deaths in the world.
How we love our freedom and how we shout it from the chimney tops.
The strain in Europe has changed to a more deadly strain, but here in Britain we're complaining the bars aren't open. If I was into buying shares, the funeral industry would be a must.

I would buy in...it is all so tragic.

The frustration goes deep. I sink lower as the implications of this pandemic keep sinking in. Yet those who love truly will be throwing caution to the winds anyway. Death is sometimes welcome with consequences sweet....

You're most welcome sir!
This has such a heavy feel to it as the pandemic is seen to curtail our every move, even romance. That final stanza is so brilliant and delivered with such accuracy Jacob, an arrow straight and true.
