Eyes Wide-Shut

Eyes Wide-Shut

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Eyes Wide-Shut

my poetry is 51 years old now

no fanfare,

candles

or cake

just a few words to mark the occasion

occasionally scrawled on a white bed

where my thoughts have transposed

the sheets

into larcenous awakenings

from stolen ideas in a dream

a half-century inclusive

of the place

a heart rested

even as the pen

became a constant somnambulist

Happy Birthday to your words, my friend. Long may they reign. Your pen is not sleep walking. I think it is running the marathon, Jacob. Lydi**

thank you for your kind words, Lydi,

Eos begged Zeus (GM) to grant Tithonus immortality but neglected to request for him eternal youth. So Tithonus shriveled as he grew older and older and was finally changed into an insect. The mythology of poetry is that it is immortal even when it thrives best in the tall grass of our dreams. I love you brother.....dana

Just shows the power of the pen won’t drop dead. An achievement by anyone’s standards. We’re all musketeers in a sense, one for all and all for one with
the pen in the battle for perfection.

yes, all musketeers...
thank you, andrew,

it doesn't seem like you're too thrilled about your celebration of 50 years of writing...in fact your writing has become more exciting in your dreams than in real life....everything gets stale after a while I guess....perhaps you are now writing in your disturbed sleep...the pen keeps moving no matter what.

I wrote my first piece so many years ago I cannot pull it out of that fog. Let's just say that you and I have well over a century of dropping words on paper. Hopefully there are many more years to go and those years will make some semblance of sense. Hmmmmmm!! that reads like a poem title.

I always enjoy your utterings.

Good one j.

The impression is that something occurred 51 years ago that led to a poetic career. The impression is also that it was a romantic disappointment of epic proportions, maybe where a dream ended and a somnambulistic pen was launched. Almost sounds like PTSD.

' .. my thoughts have transposed .. the sheet s .. .. into larcenous awakenings .. from stolen ideas in a dream.. '

Which is true, jacob: we are what are dreams display: OR - once discovered, we become what are those dreams? If you can, decide which and could be ten, a hundred or somewhere between depending on the depth of your dreams and the power of your heart. Surely it takes as many years as YOU want to use rather what the years decree>! Perhaps?
