Masks that keep the Light in

Masks that keep the Light in

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Masks that keep the Light in

i am doubled over in pain

and wonderment

at the abandon of which your poems fly

recklessly soothing

because they touch that dark part of me

that wants to fly next to you

and word the journey of perplexity

to a point of understanding both

self and anti-self

a being

perhaps here for a reason

perhaps to pen something of treason to the soul

but fundamentally of sound mind

by the time my decades

are too multiple to count

and my long white locks

long to find growth with Hamlet's worms

I will assume a jester's courage

Yorick's skull in my core

I knew me

(as I speak to my imaginary

Horatio)

and read this poetry that stuns

my meaning

into graded awe

and elaborate extension

of what is out there to touch

with a violently gentle nudge

of parsed standing.

dear Jacob… my Father loved the deep ness of Shakespeare… I myself after having lived a long and complicated Life… believe that even in this day and age; we are just as likely to struggle with greed and vengeance… perhaps even more so. It is best to realize the strength of Good and Evil. The struggle is an ongoing Battle. Thank God.. we can Relax at times and smell the flowers and romance the Clouds as well as the Sunrise and Sunset, along with the Storms of Thunder and lightening. I prey your understanding. tenderly, Pat

We write to decode the meaning of life... As we experienced. But sometimes it seems harder to describe thoughts elaborately... As we know ourselves best but can't write down it as it is. So some poem seems the exact reflection of what we are or want we want to convey... As if though masked , it is still illuminating our life and soul. Though complex yet so simple.... Love this write

I really appreciate your words here Dreamer...
thank you,

Same as below- here is my interpretation- Your writing can be jarring and shocks you, the writer at times (treason). The mask keeps the light on- we write and perhaps create masks but that is how we live and survive- I may be way off but just like a comic or good piece of art the reader invests his or her own meanings in the piece independent of the creator.

I like this, though it's hard to figure out just how to interpret it, but I think it gives people the freedom to interpret it anyway they wish. The magic of writing. Very Nice!

I've read this poem a few times J and I'm not sure of my interpretation. I get the feeling here that the poet is admiring the work of another because it touches the dark side of his soul. Maybe through reading this other poet he is able to understand more about himself and how he ticks. Maybe his muse produces poems that not even he fully understands and would like to? That's what I am going with. My muse gives me stuff sometimes that I go with and think that's not really me speaking.
