can anyone play this song on the piano

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

can anyone play this song on the piano

chrome blues

shining sax

in rhythm with a maudlin sky

the backup singers bite their nails

on their lyrics

voices skid to a stop

the stage darkens

there are sirens

the drummer questions

cymbals dance in his head

the guitar strings

snap

a concert of brevity

of overs of overs of overs

you and I were the backup band

refunding love

the consequence.

There is no substitute for songs by the original artists. and there are some songs that should never be covered.

very true, Dale, very true.

The guitar strings? Or the heartstrings? Either way, somebody's gonna sing the blues! Know any Fats Domino?

"Ain't it truth? Ain't it the truth?" :)
Being a pianist I can hear this on the piano and have played many times. The metaphors are beautiful, sad lyrics that I know by heart because I have sang them over and over and over and have refunded love as many times. The word brevity btw is one of my favorite words and love seeing it used. This is a gem!

thank you for your kind words, Patricia,

Can't play it but can hear it Jacob,
I feel disc(h)ord, as thoughts flit and flicker from the unity of music, to thoughts from the personal universe of their mind and life, that has a habit of creating chaos from harmony.
I do like your musical musings 😊

Love the words in this poem, music of words flow so nicely as if a song was hidden within. ;-}

Again another poem I have enjoyed of your.. Your head dances dear Jacob with metaphors.
I often wonder if what I read is what you intended when you wrote..
