Eventually

Eventually

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Eventually

i was the star,

you were manifest destiny

revealed

i shot towards earth

you annihilated for ego's sake

what you borrowed became yours

not legally

but with fervor

you said goodbye to those who welcomed you

inferior hosts

said you

and then made everyone else

in your own image

blink, the star is gone

North America in shreds

Don't tread through the burial ground

they already have their dead faces

turned towards you

the star disintegrated its efforts

the moon agreed

a bad light for dreams

when no conscience is illuminated

who are the children now?

in what galaxy are they better off

is starting over worth the lessons learned?

Lady Liberty built on false pretense

we are all tired and weary

and hungry for acceptance

everyone doesn't have to be like us

just equals in the stratosphere

of life, liberty

and the pursuit

of a place to rest at the end

where no one is a stranger.

dear Jacob… they changed Jefferson Davis Highway to Emancipation Blvd in Virginia… History is important! We need to change all the Liberal far left Names to Names, such as, Dictator and Emperor, Pompous Pilate, and such!!! and then send them to the Moon 🌚 forever to show them the Light up close and Personal… Amen … Pat

I am in agreement on all the changes...it is history, like it or not.

Since history was first written down, it has been a Darwinian struggle of tribes. The end is not yet.

Hello Jacob and you are welcome.
I’m actually kind of scared to touch this one. Everyone is so hypersensitive to today’s issue and American values which leads to fighting amongst ourselves instead of for each other. So many “they and them” arguments, and the future suffers and values crumble and righteous indignation is over flowing. Yikes, what a powerful piece of writing. I’m feeling a bit of my warrior coming out and need my marching boots.

The stratosphere seems to be more comforting zone than earth itself, many of us think our earth. Has corrupted us. We have destroyed so much of, both our hard work, , and our political structures that future generations won’t want to call this home… I love the way you slip in some metaphors….best, B

You're very welcome J
In recent years, I have wondered if Lady Liberty should look at her children and as, "Et tu, America?"
I am at times ashamed to call myself an American citizen. A nice portrait of a wayward nation. Well written, Sir.
