that sound

that sound

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

that sound

my blood like a gurgling brook

rampages at the sight

of your embedded irises

rising towards me, surreptitiously

agonizingly shy

the blood runs faster

I dip my toes in conversation

you respond like a whirlpool magician

my aggression disappears

into a calm swirl of feeling

we touch hands

I am stilled

and years later

you are still here

and I have become a glassy surface

fragile, breakable

tenuously holding faith

then you glance at me

the blood's impetus

reinvents itself

an old gusher

we become the sea

we dreamed

tributaries of love.

Oh, to sail in the tributary leading to the river of love....this is such a romantic write, Jacob. "I dip my toes in conversation" a delightful line! The anticipation of a love relationship about to begin....the longing for it. The hoping against hope...and then it happens. Incredible poetry! Lydi**

True enough....you made my day, Jacob!
Isn't it wonderful when first meeting someone, and we are nervous, shy giddy and at a loss for words, and they have a calming affect and make up for our loss of words and, takes away our fears? People like that are so special and...to have the pleasure of spending years with that person is something to be treasured. So many lines in this that pull at me. Lovely romantic poem, Mr. Jacob. Thank you for sharing it with us. Temp

Hi Jacob,
This might just be my most favorite poem of your so far.
Your words move as smoothly as a quiet stream.
There are so many words/lines that I keep going back to…for example “dip my toes in conversation”
Such a great line.. And , your last two lines took my breath away.
Really such a wonderful/moving poem.

Always my friend
The intensity of love is different at every stage of life. And should we happen to have a love that moves with these changes we are able to experience them together and all its variations. Thanks for sharing.

I adore this piece! Very emotional and beautiful. It’s actually vulnerable but in a good way which makes it so relatable and not feel bad to feel so.

Those eyes make my blood rush like a raging river, full of passion.....and then we converse and touch each together, and my blood gurgles no more...., stilled and satisfied; years later you are still hear, and I've become fragile, like a glass surface..."my blood gushes" but more like a calm sea, it flows more like a tributary with my love. That's what old age is like.
Nice metaphors J.
